Every morning I use the Bing app to read the news via their Bing home page to get points that I use to enter sweepstakes that would be fun to win (it's really just so I can wake up my brain in a useful way) and so far this morning I've come across 3 stories about Atlantis being found. Each one places it at a different location and only one is definitely an actual city.
1) off the western coast of Cuba, is just some interestingly shaped objects on the ocean floor that could be buildings but needs further investigation.
2) is just a mountain off of the Canary Islands (off the cost of north western Africa) that science has proven did literally sink beneath the sea but much earlier than the Atlantis story takes place (they named the undersea mountain Los Atlantes) and
3) of the coast of Greece, there is an actual under water city that is actually a real city called Pavlopetri that is in Greece which makes it more likely to be the inspiration of Plato's story, as Plato was from Greece.
Keep in mind that Plato's original story of Atlantis is a work of fiction. The whole thing is assumed to be an allegory or fable. Sadly, the concept of Atlantis sinking has been the thing that has captivated imaginations for centuries rather than Plato's point that nation states are really great but not if they get all full of themselves like Atlantis did and piss off the gods who then sank Atlantis.
I feel like America could benefit from Plato's original point about Atlantis... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
